Puppet Festival 2017

The Puppet Festival is back with a jammed programme of puppet performance, workshops and general puppetry shenanigans. Taking place at venues across the Borough this is a unique and fun filled treat for children of all ages…!

North Down Museum | Sat 27 May | 11am - 3pm | FREE

Puppets will be taking over North Down Museum on Saturday 27 May with a number of drop-in performances and a workshop!

Come meet the puppet-licious Polly Pocket and her pop-tastic puppets, and get up close and personal with Strangeface Puppet Theatre for 'Beached' which will perform throughout the day between 11am - 3pm!

Beached is a tiny tale all about Arnold whose walk becomes an adventure.... The miniture set, as well as a soundtrack played on headphones for each audience member will create an unfortgettable experience for young and old!

Also, due to popular demand a second performance has been scheduled of "Elves and the Shoemaker" by Banyan Theatre Company at 3:45pm. This performance is FREE however, pre-booking is ESSENTIAL as tickets sell out very quickly! You can book via the Ticketsource link at the top of the page.

There will also be free puppet performances across the borough in Exploris Aquarium, Castle Espie, and Donaghadee paddling pool.

Little Gem Puppets

An interactive version of the much loved children’s fairytale the three little pigs. Little Gem Puppets have put their own slant on the story involving things like pizza, keep fit tips and time to reflect on your favorite foods.

Whatever you do don’t tell the wolf where the pigs are hiding!

Performed from a Punch and Judy style booth this show is easily accessible for a young audience.

By Strangeface Theatre Company

Castle Espie Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre | Sunday 28 May | between 11am and 4pm | Duration: 20 minutes | FREE performance - Castle Espie admission charge applies

One bored boy, one mad scientist, one accidental trip into outer space! A puppet version of silent disco, Spaced is a 15 minute show for everyone. Reminiscent of such animation classics as Mr Benn and The Clangers and Oliver Jeffers’ The Way Back Home, it receives praise from adults and children alike -

'Totally original!’ ‘Utterly delightful!’

Funny, nostalgic and totally family friendly; like a child’s dream…. football, rockets, playing piggy in the middle with Leika the Space Dog, and coming back to earth with the universe in your imagination.

By Little Gem Puppets

Monday 29 May at 12pm and 2pm | Donaghadee Paddling Pool (Or Donaghadee Community Centre if inclement weather) | Duration: 30 mins | FREE

Maggie is the star of the show but she has a very unusual companion – can you guess who that might be?  If you like to talk to puppets this is the place to be. Not only do the puppets need your help during the show they will also come out to meet you when the show is over.

Performed in a Punch and Judy style booth this is an informal performance with a friendly atmosphere just find a space and enjoy the magic!
