Ikebana

An exhibition of the Japanese art of
flower arrangement to celebrate the 35th
Anniversary of Belfast Chapter of Ikebana
International.
Ikebana, translated as ‘giving life to
flowers’, is a beautiful, often strikingly
minimalist art form where nature and
humanity are brought together. It is
steeped in the philosophy of developing
closeness with nature. Traditional
arrangements follow rules of composition
while modern arrangements allow free
expression. The motto of II is “Friendship
through flowers” and the organisation
seeks to promote mutual understanding
between nations through the pleasure
of learning ikebana. Several schools of
Ikebana are represented including Ohara
and Sogetsu.
